The City of Los Angeles is the county seat of Los Angeles County. All criminal court cases go through the LA County Superior Court. The county has many courthouses including the main criminal courthouse in downtown LA.
The LA Superior Court has an online criminal index at lacourt.ca.gov. You can search by defendant name or case number. For copies, contact the court clerk. Certified copies cost $40.
Live Scan Services in Los Angeles
The LA County Sheriff provides Live Scan at the Norwalk headquarters with a $25 rolling fee. Call (562) 465-7825 for hours. LAPD may also have Live Scan services at some locations. Contact them to check availability.
Private Live Scan operators are everywhere in Los Angeles. The city is so large that using the DOJ locator to find a site near you makes the most sense. Enter your zip code at oag.ca.gov/fingerprints/locations.
Rolling fees at private sites range from about $20 to $50 in LA. Add the state DOJ fee of $32 and FBI fee of $17 for a full check.
Getting Your Background Check Records
To get your own criminal record, do a DOJ Record Review. The state fee is $25 plus the rolling fee. Fill out form BCIA 8016RR and take it to any certified operator. Results come back in a few days.
For court records, use the online search first. LA County has many courthouses so note which one has your file. Contact that clerk for copies.
Background Check Processing Times
Live Scan checks go to the state DOJ for processing. When there is no record match, processing takes 48 to 72 hours. When prints match existing records, review takes longer. Most checks complete within two weeks.
